Super Sunday

Tonight all across the world people will be beset with anticipation, hardly able to wait for the event to start. They will be on the edge of their seats, and some will not be able to sit because of the excitement of this grand event. This night is special and is set apart from other nights in many people's minds. The opportunity to gather with friends and loved ones, all excited about the same thing, seems to be rarer and rarer these days. Maybe what is so amazing about tonight is that the excitement of this evening will go with us into the week ahead. The events of tonight will dominate conversations. People will retell their favorite moment and remark on pivotal parts. And, it is by no means too much to say that people's lives will be changed by this evening. Some people's lives will be set on a new course for all of eternity. How amazing is that? What's more amazing is that we do not have to wait for this event to come around once a year. We can enjoy it every Sunday evening that we choose to spend time to worship of the True and Living God.
This morning I was a part of a worship service that moved me from beginning to end. It was emotional and I can't even begin to describe what I physically felt from the experience. It is what our lives on this earth were meant for-worshipping and glorifying God, the Creator of the Universe. It is very sad that our culture does not regard worship any higher than it does. Even Christian are not that concerned with worship, especially evening worship. The focus of true worship is all about someone else, and not about us and this is why we (especially Americans) do not like it. Yes, we benefit from worship, but I believe we benefit most when we are concerned most with bringing God glory. I am happiest, and I mean truly happiest, when I am worshiping God. All the other things that cause stress, conflict, and even temporary happiness seem to fade during worship. What a gift worship is. And, God does not limit us to 1hr in the morning and 1hr in the evening to enjoy this gift. It has been said that who we are and what we do in corporate worship is closest to what we were made for and what we will do for eternity with God. If that is true, which I think it is, than why aren't Christians more excited about worship?
